Photos submitted must be your own work, must not be copied, must not contain any third-party materials and/or content that you do not have permission to use and must not otherwise be obscene, defamatory, sexually explicit or in breach of any applicable legislation or regulation. If we have reason to believe your entry is not your own work or otherwise breaches this rule, your photos will NOT be considered.
Please do not include Watermarks. Watermarks reveal to the voters the author of the photograph and may affect judging bias.
Photographs may not be entered if they have been previously entered in the Annual Harvestfest Photography Competition.
Copyright of all entries remains with the photographer, but Truro Images Makers Photography Club who hosts this annual competition reserves the right to use, publish and republish entries in connection with the competition, without payment.
By entering this competition, you grant permission to Truro Image Makers Photography Club to post your photos in electronic format on our website and social media should they be selected to promote the Annual Harvestfest Photography Competition.
You grant Truro Image Makers Photography Club the right to use your name for the sole purpose of identifying you as the author of your photos and/or as a winner or runner-up of the Annual Harvestfest Photography Competition.
The is Competition intended for amateur photographers. The Harvestfest Competition does encourage the participation of more experienced photographers who would not be considered strictly amateurs. The “Advanced Open” category is designed for those photographers and allows them to compete with other photographers with similar skill levels. There are some guidelines for how photographers transition to this category (found in the Category descriptions below); however, anyone can compete in this category if they so choose. One caveat – once you participate in Advanced Open, you must continue to participate in this category in all future Harvestfest Competitions.
With the exception of the Under 18 and Advanced Open Categories, entrants may only enter one image per category. Entrants may enter a total of 4 photographs. People participating in the Advanced Open and Under 18 categories may enter a total of four entries in those categories.
Entries will be judged by a panel of judges.
There is no age limit for entering. This competition is open to residents of Nova Scotia only.
Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.
The entry fee is $5.00 per image to a total of $20.00. People participating in the Under 18 category may do so free of charge. Payment may be made through PayPal on this site or by cheque or cash dropped off at one of our participating sponsors. These sponsors include, Carsand-Mosher Photographic Ltd in Truro or Henry’s Canada located in Dartmouth Crossing. If you decide to pay by cash or cheque please put it in an envelope and include a note with your name and email address. Cheques must be made payable to Image Makers Photography Club. If we do not receive payment by the closing date, we will not enter your photos in the competition.
Truro Image Makers Photography Club shall not be liable for any failure to post the winners images on our website where such failure is caused by any supervening circumstances outside its control which amount to force majeure and which without the fault of either party renders performance impossible or incapable of satisfactory execution.
This competition is hosted by Truro Image Makers Photography Club and all competition terms and conditions are bound by Truro Image Makers Photography Club.
By submitting photos you are accepting these rules.
The current state of photography allows a great deal of image manipulation in the camera and in computers. Modern digital cameras permit significant processing which varies widely by camera model and age. Software such as Photoshop and Picasa allow impressive control over the final image that is printed or projected. For the purposes of Harvestfest, all images are acceptable for inclusion, whether or not they have undergone digital manipulation or not. For all categories other than “Creative”, “Under 18” and “Advanced Open”, the image must only contain the elements of one unique image. Image modifications must not make the image look “unnatural”. Quick Check: Does the image look normal?
The “Creative” category is intended for images which are a composite of more than one unique image, or are a departure from realism often through the use of derivations, montages, motion blur, patterns, selective focus, zoom exposures and other techniques. The purpose of such techniques is to alter reality to the point that the picture is no longer realistic. This does NOT include bracketed images taken for High Dynamic range (HDR) purposes as these images differ only by exposure and are not unique.
All camera work, minor adjustments and “creative” changes must be by the maker.
